What Inspires You?

What Inspires You?

When you look at the meaning of the word “inspiration,” it can be thought of as “In Spirit” or of divine influence, in other words – a spark of passion.  Inspiration always comes from within – you simply know when you think something is beautiful because causes you to stop for a moment, and that shift occurs when your mind becomes quiet because you are in awe.  These moments can be healing and lead you to change your path.  That spontaneous moment is not planned or influenced by negative thoughts.  The quieting of the mind allows these unplanned moments to occur more often and naturally – so the question becomes, “How do I quiet my mind?”  Developing a serious spiritual practice and cultivating the spiritual tools of prayer, meditation and forgiveness can be part of your toolkit to quiet your mind.  Each of these practices has many forms such as zazen, guided meditation, visualizations, centered prayer, etc. There is not one spiritual tool that will work for everyone, but each spiritual tool will work for someone. You will be drawn or attracted to what works for you like a magnet – you will simply know it is for you just like when you hear a song and you love it immediately.  If you are not sure what your spiritual path is, a simple prayer or asking for help is the best place to start.  If you do not want to use the word God, or do not align with prayer, simply go inward and ask within your heart.

“Dear God, I join with you right now in asking for your guidance.  Where do I go, what do I do and where do I start? Please show me how.”???

Marianne Williamson, a spiritual teacher who greatly inspires me says when we recite this simple prayer, books will fall at our feet and the teachings will be there.
